For more than two decades, Festive Evening has brought together friends, neighbors, and supporters from across the Thousand Islands in celebration of a shared cause: ensuring exceptional healthcare remains close to home. Since its beginning, the event has raised more than $2 million in support of critical care needs at River Hospital — a testament to the extraordinary generosity of this river community.
Now entering its 23rd year, Festive Evening is beginning an exciting new chapter.
This summer’s celebration will take place for the first time at Casa Blanca on Cherry Island, hosted by longtime River Hospital supporters Phil and Nancy Amsterdam. Co-hosting are Ron and Tammy Thomson of Uncle Sam Boat Tours. Guests will enjoy cocktails, dancing, hors d’oeuvres, and live and silent auctions while gathering on one of the river’s most iconic island properties.
While the setting and style of the evening are evolving, the heart of the event remains unchanged: bringing the community together to support healthcare along the St. Lawrence River.
The history of Festive Evening has always been deeply connected to the generosity of local families and community partners. River Hospital extends heartfelt gratitude to the Chavoustie Family and the Thousand Island Club, who hosted the event in its early years, and to the Garlock Family and Bonnie Castle Resort, whose support helped the event continue to grow and thrive over many summers. Each chapter of the event helped strengthen River Hospital’s ability to care for patients and families throughout the region.
This year’s move to Cherry Island also honors the legacy of Edith Amsterdam, remembered by many for her warmth, hospitality, and famously glamorous party hats. Edith believed deeply in supporting River Hospital and began a long-standing family tradition of hosting celebrations at Casa Blanca with the understanding that the rental proceeds would benefit the hospital. In her memory, guests are encouraged to wear hats as part of the evening’s “River Cocktail” attire — a joyful tribute to her spirit and style.
Today, Phil and Nancy Amsterdam continue that tradition of generosity as hosts and supporters of River Hospital. Phil will once again serve as auctioneer for the evening’s fundraising auction, helping carry forward a legacy that blends celebration, philanthropy, and community spirit.
“Festive Evening has always reflected the best of this community,” said Stephanie Weiss, Executive Director of Development at River Hospital. “It is about neighbors coming together to ensure River Hospital remains strong for the future. We are incredibly grateful to every family, volunteer, donor, sponsor, and guest who has helped sustain this tradition over the last 23 years.”
Festive Evening 2026 will take place Sunday, July 26 from 5–9 p.m. at Casa Blanca on Cherry Island. Guests will be ferried to the island by Uncle Sam Boat Tours, with limited docking also available. All proceeds benefit critical care services along the St. Lawrence River.
